Hello blog, how I’ve missed you.

Sophy scooter 3

In the time we’ve been apart it’s been crazy. Settling in to Seattle, just to discover we’re not going to settle in and it’s time to think of an exit strategy, fall of 2015 is it! Major road trip, first with the toddler, for a dear friend’s wedding and a follow up to Sin City. All of it awesome. Visit to Seattle by beloved DFW’ers. Regular park visits, lots of cooking and baking, photo taking, project lifing… so much going on and the blog has seriously been neglected.

No more, I miss you. Photos were taken. Documentation after the fact can happen. You’re my happy place to share all the good stuff no one else cares about, like my love for my Silhouette Cameo, this could be an entire post by itself. Why I still love Xyron as my favorite adhesive option. How LuAnn is becoming my favorite housewife and is owning that reunion. Sigh. It’s good to be back.

It’s also scary how big this toddler’s getting. She has a lot to say about everything. She rejected her outfit this morning and demanded new options. Sigh. I’m also going to pretend I’m not desperate for central AC on this rare 90 degree day in Seattle. Most of the summer is beautiful but when it’s hot, it is really hot.

Now, I’m off for FaceTime with the grandparents and a cool bath with the toddler. We’ll pretend we’re back in the pool in Vegas. I’ve got pics. It was heaven. Prepare for major longing to pack the bags for the city of Sin. Or of cabanas, tasty frozen hot chocolate and pre-fall Ugg shopping. Heaven.

A Year of Self-Improvement

So I’ve been surprised at how little I’ve enjoyed the move so far. With that, I’m working on doing some things I’ve always wanted to do. And some things I just need to do! I signed up for weekly yoga and have been getting regular massages. All of that with the walking and I’ve been feeling better but have a long way to go for some physical goals I’ve set. We’re also cooking at home more which helps cut out some of the unhealthier options.

I’ve had Book & Larder on my must visit list. I signed up for the wait list for the croissant class and they just added one in February! Super excited. It’s also next to my favorite burger place, Uneeda Burger. YUM. I’ve expanded my nightstand reading with more cookbooks. I’m loving Relish by a Daphne Oz. I was initially skeptical as she’s fairly perky on The Chew but it’s really informative and fun. Casually approaching health without the preaching which I appreciate. We’ve had some mixed results with Pinterest which has been 50/50 so far. I’m hoping more cookbook guidance increases the success ratio.

In 2014 I’ve committed to Project Life and documenting each week. I’m signed up for another Snap Shop class for my DSLR to help learn how to use the fancy camera. Really excited! Lots of plans for gifts next Christmas. Just FYI! I get such better results and Soohy pics are a favorite with the fam. Mpix promo codes are on my wish list for Valentine’s Day! I’ve got some pics I want for framed pics. I’m also going to work on the 2013 family book. I want to include the full year. Uhm, I’m going to need to add Blurb promo codes to the wish list as well!

Another class with gifting potential is Ruth Rae’s class. I thought about signing up for the weekend but I hate being away from the toddler! I haven’t been doing much with jewelry lately so this should be fun. I’ve mostly been playing with collage and building my supplies back up. If anyone has suggestions for collage supply options in Seattle I’d love to hear ’em.

I’m building up the “to visit” list and hope to make it feel more like home soon. Sophy and I are exploring tomorrow for last minute Christmas errands. Girls day! Happy Christmas Eve Eve!

Note: I forgot I signed up for a child nutrition class from Stanford Online! I’m kinda nervous! It’s Stanford! Oy!

Favorite Quote

I saw this quote on a blog post by Kelly Rae Roberts

We’re all just walking each other home – Ram Dass

It’s my new favorite quote. I’m contemplating it in tattoo format. Side note: I’m seriously cultivating a nice tattoo board and have yet to commit to permanent ink. Sigh. Ok, back on more of the topic. I blame my immediate love on it being truthful and exactly how I want us to approach each other. Also, I may be reading way too much Momastery. I love Glennon and her crazy approach to truth telling, sharing and love. Plus, I kinda just love being a monkee.

In a completely unrelated and non-spiritual topic, I’m stocking pile cookbooks like I’m gearing up to be on Top Chef. My latest are this, this one on a crazy Amazon deal and this one as a spur Costco purchase since it was the last one therefore it must be great. I agree my reasoning is not entirely sound, but paid off in this case. We have yet to discover all the terrific and amazing food that’s always being raved about here and have started cooking more to save money and to have tasty food.

Except tonight. We did have tasty pizza. 1 pizza = $27. This is not feasible as a long term meal plan.

Morning and Night

Morning view in to work

Morning view in to work

Evening view

Before and after work pics. Sunrise with the gorgeous pinks and it’s clear so the mountain is out (official Seattle term). Evening walk is cold but lovely. Luckily we’re close enough we can walk to school for Sophy pick up at night. Normally we don’t but it’s really cold and we wanted to get her walk in early. This is the normal bundling.

Seattle Sunset

View from my office building which is pretty awesome. The weather has gotten colder but beautiful. Sunny with blue skies seems to be a rarity here. We’ll take it as we still try to settle in.

I’ve got 1 tree up and a collage drying to turn into ornaments. Full on holiday madness has hit the Huff house. We’re also slightly crazed as we try to organize for thanksgiving. Madness but I love it. I’m hoping we can actually find all the trees and ornaments.

So tired I’m heading to Ned but wanted to do a quick post. I’ve missed my blog!

I read this today on Sweet Fine Day

It’s only 2 and a half weeks away. Isn’t it funny that I refer to my parents’ house as “home” when I have never lived there? But I guess home isn’t a place. It can be, but mostly it’s a feeling.

This was something that really struck me as true. The move to Seattle has been a bit rough and just much more difficult than I thought it would be. For years we called Missouri “home” but moving here, Texas is now referred to as “home” but it’s really a feeling. The place that was literally our home, safe and comfortable, friends nearby, the familiar. We’ll be in Missouri for thanksgiving and it’ll be interesting to see what it’s like. How it feels with all of this new context. I’m not sure Seattle will ever feel familiar but I feel lucky for the adventure and that I have a few places that feel like “home” when many have none.

I’m trying to be grateful everyday. Make it a practice and a habit. I’m working on all of those things I don’t like about myself but trying to be gentle. Finding things that I like about myself, things I like to do, discover what truly makes me happy and do more of it. I didn’t think I would have space to create here but I do. That’s one of my “improve” areas and happy places. Studio. I feel so much joy from creating and playing with art. I’ve decided to work my way through my art books starting with Taking Flight by Kelly Rae Roberts. a small amount of time everyday dedicated to creating sounds amazing. I’m excited about the mini-retreat feel and potential for new skills. I also just like playing in the paint! She’s been a great mentor, albeit unknowingly, and seems like the perfect starting point.

Going Away Shindig

Some friends threw a going away party for us and I missed a few folks in pictures but I was thrilled to see everyone. Bo has been a great friend all the way back to my days. He’ll be in Seattle in Nov and I can’t wait to catch up. He’s also getting married in March. His fiancee is super cute and seems to like baseball almost as much as he does!

Yummy fudge cake from Central Market. The dahlias on top were lovely and perfect for the fall send off.

She’s already planning a visit. Can’t wait. Her kids and husband are also adorable. We also wear the same size shoes so after I purchase irresistible high heels they go live at Colleen’s where she can actually wear them. Seattle will be a better shoe budget location since boots will be my new target.

The hosts! My friends Mark and Ann. Ann and her partner, Jack aka Bunny Pants, were gracious enough to let us crash her gorgeous house. The paintings peeking out are also hers. She’s crazy talented. Sophy and Monkey couldn’t resist a cameo.

Super excited to go to Seattle but we’ll be leaving some great people. We’ll have guest rooms so everyone better visit. Love you guys!

Moving to the Emerald City!

I am super excited, we’re moving to Seattle!

I was offered a position at Amazon in the book division. Needless to say, that’s at the top of the dream job list and we just couldn’t turn it down. It’s a whirlwind in our house and we’re heading out today for a house and school hunting excursion.

I’m pretty nervous about finding a school for Sophy. Everything seems to have a wait list and/or not want kids until 2/2.5. We found one and if we like it, we may just pay the extortionist prices and get on some wait lists.

I am crazy excited about potential city leaving and all the outdoorsy opportunities. Parks, national parks, beaches, lakes, etc are all at the mercy of Sophy Huff and she will conquer them all! With Rolland carrying her in one of those backpack things for sure. The city isn’t ready for her on her own. Yet. Give her a few weeks!

More Seattle excitement when we return! Hopefully with house and school settled. Oy.

Brand Spanking New Site

Hi! Welcome to my fancy new site that my super awesome brother built and designed for me! Thanks Scot, love you!

I love it and can’t wait to share all kinds of bloggy goodness with you. Jewelry, house stuff, DIY, way to many Sophy pics… it will all be here from now on. If we’re Facebook friends (Hi!) you know the big news (no, not pregnant), if not, I’ll give everyone the skinny tomorrow. It deserves it’s own post and I don’t want to distract you from looking around at the FREAKING AWESOMENESS that is my new blog!

Happy Thursday!
